- The most obvious of course is a website. Make your site is easy to navigate and has all pertinent information. No flash, it not necessary and it’s a distraction plus it makes your site load slow and they will close it and move on to another website. Be sure and have your media kit online because this is where buyers want to find it. Don’t send hard copies through the mail unless requested.

Public Speakers: Create a Member Site
Posted by: | Comments
If you’re a speaker you have a lot of knowledge and content to share. Why not leverage this knowledge and sell it in many different formats. What this does is not only fill in the gaps when your speaking schedule is slow, it gives you a chance to share with people who may not be able to attend your presentation but want to stay connected to you and your solutions.
Although there are many ways to do this one I am going to briefly mention is starting a membersite for your audience. It is one I am very familiar with and have been running myself since 2002. It’s as simple as putting the concept together, your content, your simple website (use WordPress.org, its free) and a member platform. As far as finding the perfect platforms this is something I have struggled with since 2002 and not until recently did I discover an awesome platform that works perfect with WordPress, its called Wishlist and it’s a one time purchase and that’s it, no monthly fees, no hassles and great customer service.
You can listen to the audio below to learn more and listen in to a success story from using WishList.

Whatever formats you choose to create do pick several, such as a membersite, coaching program/s, audio/DVD set, teleseminars, etc.

Does your website have a purpose?

Setting up a website is the first step of an online marketing campaign.
The success or failure of your web site depends greatly on how you have defined your website goals. If you don’t know what you want your website to accomplish, then it will most likely fail to accomplish anything. Without goals to guide you in developing and monitoring your website, all your site will be is an online announcement and will defeat the main purpose you put up a website which should have been to generate business, make online sales, market, get new clients and build relationships.
If you expect your site to kindle some form of action, whether it is for visitors to fill out a form so you can contact and stay in touch with them, or purchase a product, there are steps you can take to guarantee that your website is functioning at peak effectiveness. One of the first indications of how well your site is functioning for you is finding out the number of visitors in a given period of time.

Do I Really Need An Ezine?
Posted by: | Comments
Simple answer: Yes.
You need a way of communicating and sharing with your interested and opt in readers. It is important that your audience (readers) come to know you, like you and trust you before they will be comfortable with you and want to learn more about you and your services. Having an ezine will allow you to share your expertise, help them solve their problems, make them feel better, it will build your credibility and in turn, you will have faithful followers who are eager to receive your ezine every month and many will convert into buyers or clients. Be consistent in delivering your ezine whether it’s once a month or bi-weekly. I don’t suggest every week as I feel its too much and really a month may be too long, but the best way to know is ask your readers how often they would like to hear from you.
7 Common Mistakes New Public Speakers Make
Posted by: | CommentsIn this article I share seven of the most common mistakes that beginning speakers make when just starting their speaking business and how you can avoid them. This article is NOT about presentation skills or speech tips or even about conquering your fear of speaking but for those who are brand new and just starting their speaking business.
The following are just some of several mistakes I have seen over the years of coaching new speakers. First and foremost, remember to clarify your vision and ask yourself where you would like to be in a year from now. Know in your heart that you are good at what you do…know what you want to share and know with whom you want to share it!
Mistake Number One: not doing your research first. Before you even think about stepping into the speaking arena you have to know if your topic is marketable. Many speakers pick a topic they feel will work and spend thousands of dollars on marketing material and come to find out that their topic is not in demand therefore not a paying market and what you have now done is set yourself up for disappointment and have spent endless hours and a lot of money. So, do your homework, research your market, talk to meeting planners and executives in your market, visit associations in your market see who they have hired to speak at previous events, you can even talk to other speakers. Just take the time to research and know without a doubt that your topic is marketable.
Mistake Number Two: Being too general. Don’t try to serve anybody and everybody…not a good idea. This is a very common mistake with new speakers because they want to serve everyone and you just can’t do that. Many feel if they can serve more people they can become known quickly and make more money…not so! Listen very carefully, you must niche yourself within a very specific market, the more you can niche yourself the better chances you will have of becoming the speaker of choice in this area… make more money and become the speaker everyone will call on when they need an expert.
Mistake Number Three: Not building a strong platform. The importance of building a platform is to let the world know what you do, what you have done, and to back up your “talk.” If you are prepared to tell the world what you do and that you are indeed the expert they seek then you better be prepared in having a strong platform.
